Volcan Cotopaxi. |
Cotopaxi Memories of a Volcano
Cotopaxi Volcano |
I Arrived to Latacunga to find
the Hostel called Tacvnga Hostel, good price and comfort is close to
everything, the terminal and the closed market of Latacunga. With a value from
$ 9 the room with shared bathroom is one of the best options to get to
Latacunga. If you are looking for information https://villadetacvnga.com/.
There were two things I had in
mind as soon as I arrived to Latacunga, the first one was to go to Cotopaxi and
the second one was to be at the Mama Negra’s party. I did not know if I was
going to be on time for both ones but I had to try.
Saturday and time flies, I woke
up early as usual to have breakfast, fix my backpack and to look for how to get
to Cotopaxi, A friend offered to take me to the Cotopaxi all the way for $ 30.
I did not know how was the situation I accepted.
To arrive at Cotopaxi from
Latacunga is approximately one hour of travel, I noticed that at the entrance of
the park there are some trucks that can take you to the park registration site,
the way to the entrance of the park was
in great conditions, I found out with the Guides of the Cotopaxi National Park
and I learned that the guides charged $ 40 if you had a car and $ 60 if you had
not but they would take you in their 4x4 trucks.
The guide asked me which car I
was in and she told me that it was not going to get there what actually
happened, as soon you enter to the
volcano the terrain changes and it begins to get more sandy and the road
becomes very difficult to continue the ascent in a small car, I saw how the
Cotopaxi was so far away and at the same time so close, I was talking with a
guide that was in the place and she indicated that from where it was to the top
were at least 4 hours on foot, it seemed too much to lose my time I wanted to
go to the lagoon of Limpiopungo and to return to the party of the Mama Negra so
I had to return to Latacunga.
Road to Limpiopungo Lagoon |
On the way back there is an
entrance on the side of the road which will allow access to the Limpiopungo
lagoon. This lagoon is not so big because it is formed by the melting of the volcano,
it is a place where we will find different types of birds of the sector.
To get to the first viewpoint you
can walk through a wooden bridge you can take good pictures of the lagoon, from
that place you can watch some endemic birds in the lagoon, there is a second
viewpoint that can be reached by walking on a small path, I realized that there
is a path that goes around the lagoon and it finishes in the parking lot.
Already back to the parking lot I
found some horses that were running through the pampas I thought they had
owners or someone taken care of them but it was not like that they were free I
loved taking some pictures in that place.
After returning to Latacunga I
was hungry in the car I decided that they left me near the closed market of
Latacunga, it’s a market where they sell
typical food and all kinds of food to make daily purchases.
I was very lucky that when I was
going to enter to the market I saw the
parade of the Mama Negra, my stomach suffered but I had to watch this party
that is a national heritage.
