Estos
monigotes se elaboraban con ropa vieja y se le colocaba una careta hecha de
papel y goma lo que caracterizaba a un anciano y significaba el fin del año.
Este monigote era elaborado por las familias y es quemado a la media noche del
31 de Diciembre. El significado de esta quema del monigote es de quemar todo lo
malo que nos ha sucedido a lo largo del año y que el nuevo año sea mejor que el
que termino.
Existe
la costumbre de que un hombre se disfrace de viuda y vaya por las calles

pidiendo dinero por el año viejo y la típica frase “una caridad para el año
viejo” .
Con
el paso del tiempo estos monigotes han ido cambiando y se han empezado a
elaborar de palos de madera y papel mache, dando la forma al personaje que este
de moda que puede ser político, futbolista, personajes de peliculas o algúna
tira comica de moda por los niños.
