Parada 13: Galápagos / San Cristobal

Galápagos esta situado a 1000km del Ecuador continental, el archipielago esta conformado por varias islas e islotes. En mi primera visita a Galápagos mi primera isla en conocer fue San Cristobal una hermosa isla con muchos atractivos. Despues de aceptar la invitacion de mi amiga Paola a Galápagos, San Cristobal exactamente fui a comprar mi boleto de avion sin pensarlo dos veces

, los boletos varian de acuerdo a la epoca en mi caso me costo $180 incluido impuestos. Una vez en el aeropuerto hay que pagar una tasa de $20 que es la Tasa del consejo de gobierno que lo pagan tanto nacionales como extranjeros por igual. Luego de 1 hora 30 min llegamos a San Cristobal.

Para entrar al parque los extranjeros pagan $100 y los nacionales $6.

Una vez que llegue a San Cristobal me esperaba mi amiga Paola para llevarme a su casa y de ahí irnos a recorrer la isla.

Centro de Interpretación

Como primer punto visitamos el centro de interpretación que es un museo donde explican el origen de la isla, los primeros colonos y todo lo referente a Galapagos y sus islas.

Punta Carola

Seguimos Caminando y fuimos a playa Punta Carola que es una playa de arena blanca y gruesa donde encontramos gran cantidad de rocas es una playa para surfistas por las buenas olas que hay en el lugar.

Nuestro recorrido sigue hasta el cerro Tijeretas que es llamado asi por las aves que encontramos en el lugar llamados fragatas o tijeretas.

En uno de los miradores podemos ver la roca Leon Dormido y en otro mirador también podemos observar un cañon de la segunda guerra mundial de fabricación estadounidense. En el tercer mirdador encontraremos una estatua de Charles Darwin.

Luego de 3.5 km aproximadamente llegamos a playa Mann. Una pequeña playa situada frente a la Universidad de San Francisco, se encuentran muchos estudiantes de intercambio de Estados Unidos que salen de la universidad directo a la playa, me pareció la mejor Universidad del Mundo estar tan cerca de la playa y tener tu tiempo de relax y en mi caso tomarme unas cervezas con mi amiga y disfrutar del paisaje y de los lobos marinos que habían en Playa Mann.

San Cristobal es una isla que encanta, encontrar en el malecón lobos marinos durmiendo y descansando es algo difícil de creer, hay que recordar que los dueños de las islas son ellos y no el hombre siempre debemos mantener nuestra distancia y no tocar ningún animal.

La Loberia.

La playa queda a 10 minutos del aeropuerto de San Cristóbal. Se trata de una playa de arena coralina con lobos marinos.

La Lobería

La Lobería es un pedazo de costa que ha sido llamado así por la gran cantidad de lobos marinos que reposan en sus rocas y arena. En el recorrido se podrán encontrar una gran cantidad de plantas donde debemos ser muy cuidadosos en no pisarlas y no salirnos del sendero por donde caminamos, hay iguanas marinas que hacen sus nidos, lo mismo que las aves. Se puede distinguir a los machos lobos marinos de las hembras por el tamaño. El macho suele ser más grande y fuerte, cuando son adultos. Se distinguen además por una protuberancia en la cabeza. Socialmente se organizan en colonias o harenes. Cada colonia está compuesta por un macho dominante y alrededor de 30 hembras con sus respectivos cachorros. Los lobos marinos son animales con un marcado sentido territorial. Los machos adultos defienden sus límites con otros machos. Pasan gran parte del día vigilando su espacio y emitiendo una serie de sonidos y movimientos reafirmando su poderío territorial. Algunas veces pueden ser agresivos con los humanos. Hay que mantener una distancia prudencial.

León Dormido o Kicker Rock.

Una de las cosas que mas me encanto de San Cristobal fue el tour que hice a Leon Dormido, contrate un servicio muy temprano en la mañana para salir en nuestro recorrido a las 9 del puerto de San Cristobal. Primero nos dirigimos hacia Kicker Rock (tiempo desde el puerto hasta Kicker Rock 45 minutos ) Leon Dormido o Kicker Rock es una formación rocosa, ubicada en la costa de la Isla de San Cristobal, Es un islote en el medio del mar, tiene la forma de un gigantesco león dormido, de ahi su nombre.

En el canal de León Dormido hicimos snorkle, y se pudo observar tiburones martillo al fondo del canal, esta ha sido una de las experiencias mas increibles nadar con los tiburones asi sea una gran distancia.

Luego fuimos a una playa llamada Manglesito que esta compuesto por dos áreas de visita: el área del mangle y área de playa. La zona de Mangle es un lugar ideal para la interpretacion y observación de aves acuáticas, en cambio que la zona de la playa ha sido utilizada como un lugar de recreación. En la zona de mangle existe una laguna, la misma que constituye un lugar ideal para observar especies nativas.

Llegar hasta alla nos tomará 30 minutos aproximadamente desde Kicker Rock donde nos quedamos alrededor de una hora para almorzar y luego poder caminar o nadar.

Regresamos a San Cristobal a las 3 de la tarde muerto del cansancio pero con la alegría mas grande de haber estado en lugares que nunca pense estar y disfrutar cada momento con la naturaleza de no querer salir jamas.

Laguna del Junco

En el pueblo se puede contratar un carro o taxi para que lleve al grupo hasta El Junco. También uno puede llegar hasta El Progreso y de ahí, caminar, la caminata desde El Progreso puede durar de 1 1/2 a 2 horas (depende del grupo). Desde Puerto Baquerizo Moreno hasta El Progreso son unos 30 minutos en auto.

En la laguna del Junco hay que subir un sendero que se encuentra hecho de madera, ya en la cima encontramos un pequeño cráter que va a estar lleno de agua dulce siendo la única fuente de agua dulce de la isla.

Puerto Chino.

Está ubicado a 24 km de distancia de Puerto Baquerizo Moreno y a pocos kilómetros del Centro de Crianza junto al Cerro Colorado.

El acceso es vía terrestre se debe tomar un taxi, aproximadamente en 45 minutos se llega a un sendero de fácil acceso, desde donde se debe caminar unos 15 minutos para estar en la playa que es de arena blanca muy fina, y es un excelente sitio para recreación y descanso. Además es un lugar ideal para observar aves marinas alimentándose.

Es importante llevar agua, sombrero y protector solar, además de un repelente de insectos por que hay unos animales llamados tabanos que son bien molestosos y dejan unas marcas grandes y pican demasiado.

Puerto Chino una de las playas mas cristalinas que he visto en mi vida, un hermoso lugar dan ganas de volver.

Casa del Arbol

En San Cristobal encontramos la casa del árbol si uno quiero dormir en la casa se puede hacer solamente hay que pagar un valor por la noche.

Galapagos is located at 1000 km from mainland Ecuador, the archipelago is made up of several islands and islets. On my first visit to Galapagos my first island to visit was San Cristobal. Interpretation center

Interpretation Center

The first point that we visited was the interpretation center it’s a museum where they explain the origin of the island, the first settlers and everything about Galapagos and its islands.

Punta Carola

We walked and went to Punta Carola beach. This is a beach of white and thick t’sand where we found lots of rocks it’s a beach for surfers because we can find good waves in this place.

Our tour continues to the Tijeretas’ hill is named for birds found in the place called frigatebirds.

In one of the viewpoints we can see the rock Kicker and another viewpoint we can also see a cannon from World War II made by American. In the third viewpoint we found a statue of Charles Darwin.

After approximately 3.5 km we reached playa Mann. A small beach located opposite the University of San Francisco, there are many exchange students from the United States coming out of the direct beach college, I found the best university in the world being so close to the beach and You can took your relaxing time and in my case I took a few beers with my friend and enjoy the scenery, sea lions that were in Playa Mann.

San Cristobal is an island that love you, I found the sea lions sleeping and resting in the boardwalk is so hard to believe,You have to remember that the owners of the islands are the animals, and not the man we have always keep our distance and do not touch any animals.

The Loberia.

The beach is 10 minutes away from San Cristobal. It is a coral sand beach with sea lions.

Lobería is a piece of coast that has been named for the large number of sea lions resting on the rocks and sand. On the tour you will find a lot of plants that we must be very careful not to step on them and not get out of the path where we walk, there are marine iguanas that make their nests, like birds. One can distinguish sea lions males from females by size. The male is usually bigger and stronger when they are adults. It is further distinguished by a bump on the head. Socially they organized in colonies or harems. Each colony consists of a dominant male and about 30 females with their cubs. Sea lions are territorial animals with a marked sense. Adult males defend their boundaries with other males. They spend much of the day watching your space and emitting a series of sounds and movements reaffirming its territorial power. Sometimes they can be aggressive with humans. You have to keep a safe distance.

Kicker or Kicker Rock.

One of the things that I love of San Cristobal was the tour that I made to Kicker Rock, I hired a service very early in the morning, We went out on our tour at 9 at the port of San Cristobal. First we headed Kicker Rock (time from the port to Kicker Rock 45 minutes) Leon Dormido or Kicker Rock is a rock formation, located on the coast of the island of San Cristobal, it is an island in the middle of the sea, it has the form a giant sleeping lion, hence its name.

In the channel of Kicker rock we practiced snorkle and I could see hammerheads at the bottom of the channel, it has been one of the most incredible experiences that I had, you can never forget to swim with sharks

Then we went to a beach called Manglesito that consists of two visiting areas: the area of mangrove and beach area. Mangle area is an ideal place for interpretation and observation of aquatic birds, however the beach area has been used as a place of recreation. Mangrove area there is a gap, it constitutes an ideal place to observe native species.

You get there it will take about 30 minutes from Kicker Rock where we were about an hour for lunch and then to walk or swim.

We return to San Cristobal at 3 in the afternoon dead tired but with the greatest joy of being in places that I never thought to be, I enjoyed every moment with nature.

Junco Lagoon.

In the village you can hire a car or taxi to take you to the Junco. Also one can reach El Progreso and there walk from El Progreso can last from 1 1/2 to 2 hours (depending of you ). From Puerto Baquerizo Moreno to El Progreso are about 30 minutes by car.

In the Laguna del Junco must climb a path that is made of wood, and on top there is a small crater will be filled with fresh water being the only source of fresh water on the island.

Puerto Chino.

It is located 24 km away from Puerto Baquerizo Moreno and a few kilometers from Breeding Center next to Cerro Colorado.

Port Chino

You can take a taxi, about 45 minutes you get to a trail easily accessible, where you must walk about 15 minutes to be on the beach is fine white sand, and it is an excellent site for recreation and relaxation. It is also an ideal place to observe seabirds feeding place.

It is important to bring water, hat and sunscreen, as well as an insect repellent that there are animals called horseflies that are very annoying and leave some big brands and sting too.

Puerto Chino one of the most crystalline beaches that I've seen in my life, a beautiful place that makes you want to return.
